NEW MASHUP - “Queens of the Funkytown”

Here’s a quick one - Queens of the Stone Age "No One Knows" vs. Lipps, Inc. “Funkytown”.

Why? No idea. It popped into my head that it might work and would be kinda funny. I was right.

There is something complicated happening with the key of the song alright. Funkytown changes key halfway through from C Major to C minor, right around the part with the string section. Josh Homme is singing in C minor the whole song. However, his singing doesn’t sound off key as none of the notes that differentiate the Major and minor versions of the Key of C play in the instrumental while he’s singing, therefore it still sounds like he’s singing in key.

It’s an odd one, that had me flummoxed as to why I didn’t need to pitch shift for the key change until I worked it out. It was a good lesson for me.

Anyway, I also made a weird mash-up video by combining the Qotsa and Lipps Inc videos via a Luma Key effect (makes dark patches of video transparent). This video got blocked on YouTube due to copyright, however it’s available on Reddit at this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/mashups/comments/dlout7/queens_of_the_funkytown_queens_of_the_stone_age/
