NEW MASHUP - “Jay-Zimmer” - Jay-Z vs. True Romance Soundtrack

As I said in my last blog-post, expect more Hans Zimmer mashups, so here we are with perennial mashup artist favourite Jay-Z rapping ”My First Song” over Zimmer’s “You’re So Cool”, the main theme from the True Romance movie soundtrack.

Seriously, the amount of Jay-Z based mashup albums is insane; more than likely inspired by Dangermouse’s seminal The Grey Album. You have Jay-diohead, MGM-JAY, & Bey-Z, to name but a few.

“You’re So Cool” is one of my favourite pieces of music from ZImmer, mainly because it acts as such a beautiful, classy, counter-point to what is a pretty garish and violent gangster film. The piece is actually a cover of “Gassenhauer nach Hans Neusiedler (1536)” - German composer Hans showing his influences there.

FYI, if you haven’t seen True Romance, written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by Tony Scott, and starring EVERYONE (to quote one of the stars, Gary Oldman, but from a different film), then please sort your life out and amend that error post haste. It’s great.

But hey, don’t take my word for it - here’s Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z himself, with the recommendation:

So Hova, if you’re reading this, which is a bloody long shot, here’s your “My 1st Song” flow over “You’re So Cool”:
