NEW MASHUP - "Broken Shallow" - If Hans Zimmer wrote Shallow from A Star Is Born

I’m on a roll with my Hans Zimmer mashup series - “Now Mash Your Hans” , with my newest track:

“Broken Shallow”

I will admit that John Woo’s 1995 thriller Broken Arrow, starring John Travolta and Christian Slater isn’t a cinematic classic, but I have a deep affection for it, based on the countless times I watched it when I should’ve been studying for the Junior Certificate exam.

It’s cheesy, the acting ain’t great, and the plot makes no sense (I mainly talking about Christian Slater’s “rope-a-dope” revelation that gets us into the third act), but I still love it for these reasons.

1. It’s a John Woo movie, so the action is inventive (see any helicopter crash in the movie);

2. It’s funny (sometimes intentionally);

3. The music is bad-ass.

Hans Zimmer employed the talents of guitarist Duane Eddy for the soundtrack, which has this weird mix of Spaghetti Western and mid-90’s techno thriller. This music (along with the soundtracks to The Rock and Jurassic Park in particular) inspired my formative love of music and composition, so it’s great to incorporate this score into my mashup project.

Mashing it the country tinged, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper smash hit Shallow from A Star Is Born really highlights the country vibes, and that trademark Hans Zimmer bombast really underscore Gaga’s powerful vocals.

To be honest, this one turned out way better than I though it would! Hope y’all enjoy -
